POMAIA
Pomaia is a little village set among
the green hills of Pisa, placed in one of the most
beautiful Tuscany countryside. It is a typical Medieval stoned
village.
The historical centre
is made up of small houses and the only building is in the
church square. It is probably the original core.
During the last years, this village has become famous for
a Tibetan Buddhist centre, from
the same school of Dalai Lama, who has visited the centre
several times. In this place of brotherhood and peace, the
monks have built a little Tibetan centre, its chorten (stupas
or statues), its prayers and its holy paintings. The visit
of the Buddhist centre in Pomaia is a chance of inter-religious
meeting.

SANTA LUCE
It is set on the east slope of the valley
of the river Fine and its borough stretches for 66.72
sq. Km. in a hill-side between Val d'Era and Valle del Savalano.
The urban arrangement of the village is characteristic of the
hilly villages. Santa Luce is made up of a bunch of houses lined
with the walls that shielded the castle, now just a large tower
and a piece of wall.
During the years, the old village has not
suffered remarkable changes. Beneath the first walls,
the houses are lined following a probable second walls.
There is also a church that rises
on a Romanic floor and inside there is a superb baptismal font,
carved in an alabaster block.
An outstanding building is the Palace of
Municipality (Palazzo Comunale) that keeps some features
of a restoration made during XVIII c..

LA PIEVE DI
SANTA LUCE
This suburb is a typical agricultural village
and Pieve rises on the top of it.
It is of Romanic origin. In the past, the suburb and Pieve were
two detached centres, but nowadays they are linked thanks to
the buildings along the municipal road of Belvedere.
Pieve has the most important architectonic
assembly. It had two naves separated by six columns linked together
by arches. It had several paintings and terracotta. It was rebuilt
after the earthquake of 1846. Just some capitals of the columns,
the octagonal monolithic baptismal font and a terracotta belonged
to Della Robbia have been kept. |
